I blog two days a week and I know I’m incredibly lucky to have that opportunity, the other 3 days I am being Mrs Midwife and earning a crust to pay the mortgage and keep the family fed. Those wonderful two days are my sanctuary, they keep me sane and allow me to flex my creative mind and earn a bit of money too. But what do you think blogging as a job is like?
When I started blogging nearly 3 years ago, I expected that if I did it “properly” I would spend my days at home on the sofa, drinking coffee and have my laptop on whilst watching an episode of the Real Housewives of Timbuktu. But it isn’t like that at all. In fact, the amount of stuff I have accrued over the last few years has made blogging like an actual job.
From being a sofa-based hobby I now have an office which, unfortunately, I have to share with my husband. Luckily I have my own desk which, as you can see, is a blessing.
But getting it all together isn’t cheap. If you don’t have a comfortable working environment, be it an actual desk or sitting in your living room with the laptop, it can make a massive difference to whether you want to sit and work or slob out in front of the telly with some chocolate. And as a result, whether you do the hours you need to make your blog a success or just let it fall by the wayside.
There is so much more to blogging than just writing blog posts, you have to schedule posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest; along with taking good quality photos, email what seems like the entire population of the UK with pitches for projects, budgets, competition organisation and possibly edit videos for YouTube. So you need to be comfy whilst you plough through the chores.
I love office shopping and places like Furniture at Work are great for getting the bits and bobs you need without breaking the bank. They’ve just released a video about working from home that I can totally relate to, give me an office any day!!
