Being a mum doesn’t leave much time for being you really, does it? If there isn’t a nappy to change, there is a nose to wipe, or disaster to avert. In my house, we have my daughter, a dog and a cat that always want a part of my attention. Unfortunately, my poor kitty is the bottom of the hierarchy and doesn’t get the TLC that she got in the days where it was just me and her. Whiskas got in touch to see if I would like to pamper myself and my cat. I think you know what my answer was!
They kindly sent me a “ham-purr” – get it? with loads of cat treats and toys to show her that I still think she’s awesome, even if she is only observed outside “office hours” aka the hours where my daughter is asleep. They also sent me the coolest mug I’ve ever seen, to help me soothe my soul with a hot drink (or five).

When I was thinking about this post the whole idea of pampering got me thinking. For me being pampered isn’t going for lavish spa days, even though they are amazing, it’s the little things. It’s taking that little bit of time to give yourself a cuddle and a bit of a pep talk, saying “Mum, you are awesome, you got this” whilst sipping a HOT cup of coffee.
So what do you do to pamper yourself? I’ve come up with 5 ways to pamper yourself in 5 minutes.
1. Have a hot drink and actually drink it hot.
Yep, when that brew reaches the perfect temperature, that is the moment to have a minute to yourself. Try and schedule it when you know you can have a break.
2. Have a hot shower and wash the day away.
Baths aren’t always practical, so if you can’t fit in a full soak have a hot shower and relive those aching muscles.
3. Catch up on social media when you have a minute to take your eyes off the children.
There is nothing wrong with seeing what others are doing on Facebook, you don’t have to be screen free all the time.
4. Eat a favourite snack.
In peace and on your own. With no sharing!
5. Sing your heart out to a song from your teenage years.
For 5 minutes you’ll feel like you’re 14 again.
Obviously, the greatest way to relax is to spend some time with your pets. Stroking your cat or dog releases oxytocin which is the love hormone, and makes you feel good. So, cuddle up on the sofa with your pet and give them a bit of TLC, because they need a bit of pampering too!
The way they love being spoiled are treats, toys or touch, and Whiskas have a whole host of fantastic treats and toys for your kitty. From kitten food specifically for tiny tummies or their dental treats, you will find something to suit your cat. I’ve genuinely used Whiskas for the whole 7 years of my cat’s life and love their products and my cat likes them too.
They’ve started a campaign called #whiskasschoolsout and have some fantastic videos with some gorgeous kittens in them at “kitten kollege”. They are focusing on making sure owners know how to care and keep their cats happy and loved from day one; whilst reassuring us that their products are nutritious and healthy for your cat.
