Carriwell GelWire – changing the face of the nursing bra

Carriwell GelWire – changing the face of the nursing bra

I’m a big fan of a comfy bra, gone are the days that I would buy something incredibly uncomfortable because it was cheap or boosted my décoletage, yes the claxon has sounded and I am getting old. However, one thing I do like is my bra to be reasonably stylish and I was not a fan of the nursing bras that were on sale when I was having Isabelle. Recently, Carriwell got in touch and asked me to review one of their new GelWire nursing bras, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the “goods” to test it properly for my readers. So I recruited my lovely Sister-in-Law to try one as she had a baby just a few weeks ago!

This is Kerry – my SIL (Sister-in-Law for those that aren’t Mumsnet readers) and Lottie, my new niece, isn’t she precious?

Thankfully for me, Lottie is a great little breastfeeder so my SIL has been really trying out the bra to see if it cuts the mustard in everyday life.

The fantastic thing about these bras that make them better than the average nursing bra isn’t only that they look good, it’s that they are seamless and underwired…

Oh yes, that dreaded “U” word to any lactating mama around the globe.

But they aren’t underwired with an ACTUAL wire, it is a gel strip that means that the ducts aren’t blocked and undue pressure isn’t placed on the breast when it is at it’s most vulnerable. The GelWire bra provides support whilst providing ease of use, the clasp opens one handed and the whole cup will drop down to maximise skin-to-skin contact – something that is so important in the early days of establishing breastfeeding. The back features a triple clasp and wide straps to help support your breasts when they are feeling particularly full.

My SIL thought they were fab, this was her verdict:

“It was a very comfortable and supportive bra, which was also easy to feed in and no parts got in the way. It was good to have a bit more structure than other nursing bras, but because of the gel wire it didn’t feel constricted in its support.”

The bras are a new addition to the UK, starting out online and available in certain JoJo Maman Bébé stores. If you’re going to breastfeed or are looking for a new nursing bra, find one of these, you won’t regret it! And for Mumsy Midwife followers there is a fantastic
