Decorating to make my dream living room

*This is a sponsored post.*

It’s been nearly three years since we moved into our current house, and as of yet, we haven’t done any decorating. We had very big ideas and always have them at the back of our minds, but as everything goes, they keep getting pushed down on the list. I have got some big ideas of what I would like to do to make our house a dream home.

The sofas

The first room I would decorate is our living room. It is currently a cream colour, and whilst this is perfectly lovely, I would make big changes if I could. I would start with the sofas. Currently we have a very old and well used leather two seater sofa. It is still here because it fits perfectly in the gap we have between the window and the chimney breast. It is scratched and sagging, desperately needing a trip to the tip.

I would love to get a soft dark grey two seater to fit the gap and combine it with a matching 3 seater recliner to replace our “main” sofa. That is a corduroy brown recliner and sagging as well. Currently my seat doesn’t recline at all and the only reason we haven’t replaced it is because of the current potty training situation. If it gets mucky, it really doesn’t matter. But it is leaving the house by next Christmas without fail!

I would love to have a big comfy “love” seat like this – we just don’t have the room.

The walls

After sorting the sofas I would start on the walls. I’d have a feature wall over the chimney breast or feature wallpaper in the recesses either side of the chimney breasts to be a bit more original. I’d love a light, patterned print. Maybe something floral but not too bothered about what’s on it as long as it suits the room. I’d then paint the other walls fresh with a cream colour, but a different shade to the current look. Something cooler and less of a yellow tinge.

The floor

Flooring wise I do like a hard floor – it is so much easier than a carpet with a toddler and easier to clean as well. We currently have laminate flooring but it’s looking quite tired so I would replace it with something similar to this laminate flooring I’ve seen online. We aren’t rich enough for solid wood flooring but this is a fabulous alternative. I’d then pair it with a new rug to warm the room up a bit. Ideally, something hard wearing and not to thick a pile – in my experience they last longer as they don’t look trodden down.

I’d love something like this Balterio Quattro Vintage Lipica Oak effect flooring.

The accessories

Accessories wise I would LOVE to get some floating shelves to store books and display photos on. I would also make my own cushions, buying the filling from IKEA and crocheting the covers using a fleecy thick yarn. Machine washable of course. I’d probably go for a teal colour as I’d love the overall colour scheme to be grey and teal. The colour pops from cushions and throws would be easily replaceable if we fancied a change as well. At only a small cost.

The tech

Tech wise we would definitely mount the tv to the wall to free up all the space the tv table takes up. I would then love to reopen the fireplace and get a faux log burning fire. Ideally a gas one as I feel a fire makes such a difference to a room and it’s something I currently really miss. When we go to Center Parcs we have a fire each night and I always love it so much. It’s the dream to sit and crochet in front of the fire with some Netflix on the TV.

So next on the list would be our bedroom, but I’ll leave that for another day, I think.

If you could do anything to improve your home, what would you do?
