There are a few books which no home should be without and should be proudly displayed in a stylish bookcase which would be a great addition to any reading room. Here are 5 books which everyone should read and own in their house:
Reading is an activity that has many benefits. It can help people to escape reality and unwind, sharpen the mind, improve concentration, allow you to dive into unknown worlds, increase your vocabulary and many, many more benefits. Additionally, there are so many amazing books to read that it means you should always be able to find something that takes your fancy.
Moby-Dick by Herman Melville
Moby-Dick is considered a literary classic and one of the most referenced novels of all-time. It is an epic tale and one that is littered with complex themes which are explored over the course of the powerful story.
1984 by George Orwell
When Orwell wrote this iconic dystopian tale he surely did not know just how prophetic his words would be and how Government surveillance would be such an enormous global concern all these years later. The messages within this terrifying yet utterly gripping tale are as relevant now as ever which makes it an important read.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Similarly, the horrifying themes of racism and a prejudice legal system on display in this classic remain as prevalent today as they did when this book was set in the 1930s. It remains one of the most important and celebrated novels ever and is also a book which can be read in just a few hours.
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Many people are familiar with the phrase Catch-22 but not everyone has read this excellent novel of an Italian soldier during WW2 attempting to get out of the incredibly dangerous flying missions. In addition to its cultural importance, Catch-22 is a superb read which is both dark and very funny.
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
You will struggle to find a tale that is as influential than Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. The classic romantic English novel was written in 1813 and is set in the Regency era in Great Britain but its presence can still be felt in most comedy and romance stories today. In addition to being a superb story about social class, personal growth and love, Pride & Prejudice is a beautifully written book and a well-constructed story which is why it remains such a popular example of writing today.
These are just 5 books which should sit proudly in any home bookshelf and stories that everyone should read in their lifetime.
