Looking after your feet at work with Vionic Avery Pro shoes
I rceived these shoes for free in exchange for an honest review.
Being a midwife is really hard on my feet. I can sometimes spend upwards of 13 hours a day on my pegs, pacing the wards or working in clinics. Therefore it doesn’t come as a surprise that I need to have good shoes. When Vionic asked if I would like to review a pair of their Pro range, I bit their hands off and I couldn’t wait for them to arrive.
First things first, I thought I would talk about the rules around what shoes are suitable in a clinical environment. Firstly they need to closed-toe, so no sandals or holey Crocs. Secondly, they need to be fully cleanable, canvas pumps just won’t fit the bill. Finally, from a personal point of view, they need to have good arch support and be incredibly comfortable.
Usually, I buy leather shoes from places on the high street but heard about Vionic at a blogging conference and have lusted after their day-to-day shoes. They now have an Avery Pro collection which features a variety of suitable work styles aimed at healthcare professionals. The attraction to these stems from the fact that they have non-slip soles, wipeable uppers and arch support. Three things that are essential in a clinical environment. They also come in a variety of colours, from plain black or white leather to rose gold (the ones I picked) and blue metallic. So there is something to suit everyone’s style.
The shoes themselves are really comfortable, being slip on means you don’t have to mess with laces or straps and clasps, which I find can all dig in after a few hours work. The arch support is high, having suffered from flat feet all my life I do find this can hurt after a proportion of a shift. My arches naturally start to fall as the day goes on, but, as with other shoes containing support, after a few days of continuous use my feet start to adjust and they no longer hurt.

I must say I am enjoying wearing them, they suit my style (being rose gold they are a little different to other’s) and I feel like my feet are well cared for through the long days. They are pricey at £130, I would normally spend £50 for work shoes, but they are extremely high quality and I feel they will last well.
Ultimately, your feet are one of your greatest assets when you are in healthcare, so it makes a massive difference being comfortable. If you are looking for a high-end shoe to look after your feet then definitely look into these as you won’t be disappointed.
