Blogging Room 101

Blogging Room 101

I’ve been tagged by Sarah over at Toby Goes Bananas to do a list of my Room 101 of the blogging world, I loved reading her’s, but actually quite struggled with mine. Are there any things about reading online content that gets your goat? After *far too much* thought, here they are:

Bad spelling.

I know, how cliché, but it’s probably the top thing that annoys me about reading blogs. The odd typo is inevitable, but for people that don’t spell check (that really should do), I don’t really get very far. I may read the odd post but I won’t be clicking around looking at your other content. I find it too distracting to see the quality that is probably hiding there.

No voice.

I read blogs because I genuinely want to get to know the people behind the posts. I love reading about how your life is going, or how much you enjoyed a product. I want to hear what YOU have to say. I feel some blogs are written with no soul, like I could be reading a news website, I want to see the feeling and the emotion behind what you’ve got to say. I want to hear your voice.

Centred text.

Another fickle pet peeve, but I really hate reading centred text as blog posts, I feel like I’m meant to be reading a poem and it disrupts my mojo.

Continuous ranty posts.

The odd one is a good read, I like seeing what’s annoying people enough to take to their laptop and post. However, if the blog is just one ranty post after another, I think maybe you should talk to the people peeing you off rather than venting to the general public. It makes me sad to think someone is so upset they’ve set up a website dedicated to hating people.

Constant name dropping.

This is a really rare one as the majority (99%) of the blogging community is humble and very supportive. But ever so often I see a blogger that uses every opportunity to rave about what brands they’ve worked with, thus giving them “celebrity status”. I repeat, this is a rare beast, I haven’t come across one in a long time. All my current blogging friends and contacts… this is not you!

So, what are your pet peeves with blogging… I nominate

I’m not a huge fan of centred text at all! I definitely like a blog with some personality. As a new blogger I’m trying to get that voice too.

You’ll get there. It takes a little bit of time but you’ll find your feet soon enough. 🙂
