We had a Baker Days cake
I had a very happy husband last week. I hadn’t told him, but I had been offered a Baker Days cake to review and I picked one that had a Father’s Day theme, especially to cheer up my stressed hubby. He’s been working late recently and as we had no occasions coming up I thought I would pick an early present for him. He DID know that something was coming for him, though; so when it dropped in through the letter box, I was really excited for him to try it.
Baker Days is an online cake company with a really innovative premise, you can order your cake online (with hundreds to choose from) and they deliver it to your house. They also have a “letterbox” cake which, as described, fits through your letter box; which means you don’t even have to wait in for it! I was a little concerned that sending a cake through Royal Mail would end in disaster. I had imagined it would be broken and possibly stale from how slow (and haphazardly) they take to deliver things. But I was wrong; when it arrived it was in perfect condition (even after the letterbox drop) and each cake comes sealed in a plastic packet to maintain freshness. I also loved the packaging; it arrived in a small box with some Love Hearts, a card and a special tin for the cake.
What are the options?
They have four sizes to choose from, the 5-inch letterbox cake being the smallest all the way up to a 12-inch cake with a free helium balloon. The latter is about 40-55 portions so great for a big party. They are quite expensive, the 5-inch is £14.00 and the 12-inch is £57.99. They also offer cupcakes and personalised options on all the cakes, including chocolate sponge, gluten free and dairy free choices, along with personalised pictures and writing on the cakes. So there is plenty to choose from when you’re looking through the site.
Taste test.
We decided to split the cake in half and both review the taste together, there was no way I wasn’t trying a piece of this cake! It was moist and yummy, I had heard before from other bloggers that they found it dry; I wouldn’t agree with that as we both felt it was a fresh sponge. The letterbox cake didn’t include any buttercream, just the sponge and the icing. So I suppose this could be a reason for people feeling it was dry. It didn’t bother us, though.
Verdict.
Overall we really enjoyed it, in fact, we ate half each in one sitting like piggies! I would love to have another cake from them again in the future, I’m even considering one for my daughter’s first birthday in August. If you fancy trying one, I would definitely say they were nice. I like the fact that they are delivered to your door so you don’t have the worry of bringing home a massive cake in the car (if you were to order one of the bigger ones). Thanks, Baker Days for letting us try your cakes and for cheering up my husband.
I was given a cake in return for a review and giveaway. My opinions are my own (and my husband’s) and are honest. I would not compromise my integrity, I value my readers too much for that.
