I’ve always wanted to have cable tv. I had it when I lived at home with my parents and really missed it when I moved out. I had to manage with bog standard Freeview – which I admittedly got used to in the end. As you know, I’m a champion of terrible tele, so I had to live with only having ITVBe when I was on maternity leave, rather than the extra channels I’d be able to indulge in on cable TV.
When we moved into our new house last year the first thing I booked in was Virgin installation. I couldn’t wait. No, you can imagine my planner is full of TLC and MTV programmes along with mostly CBeebies shows. My husband doesn’t get a look in!
When we looked into our options we considered Virgin, Sky and BT. But found Sky was too expensive and BT didn’t have enough channels, Virgin came out the most value for money, so we booked to get the Big Bang package. As a blogger you can imagine I want good internet so we also picked the fastest fibre optic internet package alongside our tv and phone.
Installation proved slightly difficult. We were in the midst of chaos making Ikea flat packs left, right and centre as the man hooked us up. He left promising that it would all activate within the hour… it didn’t. When we called to moan about it a lovely guy came out to help us at 8 pm. It was a Saturday and he was home with his family, but as we were having difficulties he came out to help. Now that is what I call customer service!
Six months on we’re still loving cable. We have the usual issues with the internet going off every now and again, on the whole, however, things are very reliable. From talking to family and friends, I’ve found we have a very good deal, with my in-laws and parents paying over £80 where we pay £43.
Do you have cable or Sky? What’s your favourite trashy tv channel?
