Recently I was invited to meet the masterminds behind the brand Cerascreen. The company offers at home testing kits for a variety of intolerances and allergies and are very well established in Europe. They are taking the leap across the Channel to the UK and are launching 8 of their tests to buy online.

The tests range in price from £39 to £119 and cover the following issues:

  • A Food Reaction test – checking for 95% of all food allergens.
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Vitamin D deficiency.
  • Lactose intolerance.
  • Gluten intolerance.
  • Histamine intolerance.
  • Testosterone level check.
  • Stress hormone level check.

Over on the continent, they have many more tests on offer including a serotonin level check and an oestrogen level check, which they hope to bring to the UK in the future.

The thing I like most about the tests is the fact that it is a truly comprehensive service. In the box, there is a sample collection kit and full instructions along with a prepaid express delivery envelope back to their lab in Germany. It is all linked by a barcode you place on the sample collection pot and a special code you activate on their website. You have a questionnaire to fill in and once your results are ready they send you an email.

The results come as a PDF that you can read and print and involved a detailed insight into the test carried out. You then have access to their nutritionist to help make the most of the findings and what changes you need to make to your diet (if any).

I was able to try a testing kit and found taking the sample painless. Some are small (and I mean very small) blood samples, some are breath samples. With the tests requiring blood, you need to prick your finger and provide about 8 spots of blood into the small vial, and that’s it.

I’ve been able to secure one reader a Food Reaction test worth £119 to see if they have any unknown food allergies. This test is Cerascreen’s leading kit, and with the results comes a 25 page PDF report of all the findings. It is a really good method of testing, rather than having a complicated allergen test at the hospital and it is all done in your home when you want to do it.
